What is real?

The unicorn has a long history in mythology so it was something of a surprise to find this young girl with her pony decked out as a unicorn outside the main festival tent in Wigtown this morning.

Thinking it was a publicity stunt for an author’s book; after all this is the Book Festival I asked the young owner if this was so.
“No…its to make people happy,” she replied.

Well, that certainly was not the answer I was expecting then I thought: “why not?”

I went to two very different events today- Max Porter talking about his novel Grief is the Thing with Feathers, which has been one of the unexpected hits of this year, a very unusual and charming book that is a cross between poetry and a novel.

The author said bookshops did not know where to place his short book- should it be in the poetry section or fiction? In the end they put it on the counter next to the check out.

As for the Beyond Brexit event this attracted a full house with politicians trying to decipher what it meant. They had no answers though one suggested that Theresa May is flying an aircraft which she is still building.
