Oktoberfest

Posting this on last day of the 2016 Oktoberfest which is Monday 3rd October. Up until the reunification of Germany, the Oktoberfest always ended on the first Sunday in October but with the introduction of the German Unity Public Holiday on 3rd October, it has become common to extend the event by a day or two if the Sunday falls on 1st or 2nd. Tradition is great, money in the till is better.

The Blip is of daughter Kate in 1983 aged 3. In the spring we had had a holiday in Germany and Kate was presented by her great-grandmother Adele with the "Dirndl" traditional costume which most associate with Bavaria and the Oktoberfest.

The photo was taken in a very rural West Sussex garden and I suspect Kate never got her daughter Charlotte to wear it when she was three. No sense of tradition nowadays.

Well, I guess if the UK leaves the EU, this photo alone will give her automatic, unreserved free access to Germany and probably honorary citizenship in Bavaria.
