Silk purses out of sows ears, again!

B was keen to be taught how to cane the seats of two William IV chairs that we have in the house. But I want to do those as I restored the chairs!
 
As this will be his first attempt he had to start with the basics, strip out the old cane and give the chair a good scrub with soap and water.
 
When it is stripped, sealed with shellac and waxed (these would never have been French polished) and ready for caning, I can demonstrate on the posh chair.
    
It has been a beautiful sunny day. I’ve spent most of the time in the garden moving plants, taking cuttings and planting bulbs. I’m still a bit sniffy, but my cold symptoms are gradually reducing.
