Spireslack

Backblipped for 24/9/16
A U3A geology trip to Spireslack open cast coal mine, where the various layers of rock are such an outstanding example of geological exposure that it has been preserved intact rather than being landscaped as first planned.
The weather conspired against us as gales and gusts of wind, ripping off hard hats, rattling our hoods against our ears, blowing away our guides' words of information and threatening to blow us off steep slopes  resulted in the visit being cut short in favour of a stop for tea at the excellent, family-owned, Cairn Lodge Services on the way home.
