Pile on a Post

Having been introduced to "what's this on the top of a fence post" by a fellow blipper many months ago, I was looking out for some tonight on the way home. I had been hoping for some vegetation but that seems to have gone long ago. Instead I found these little pebbles stuck together... why they are stuck together and why it is on a post I may never know.
