Bird's eye view

As it was a gloriously sunny afternoon with a gentle breeze, I wandered along to the Hydro ruins, or the Oban Hills Hydropathic Sanatorium as it was going to be known. Begun in 1881, it was never completed and fell into a ruinous state, being cannibalised for building stone too. Now it overlooks the town from its rocky knoll which provides a dramatic viewpoint over the sea and islands.

Here you can see the Columba Hotel in the foreground and St Columba's cathedral and the Alexandra Hotel across the bay. In the bottom right hand corner the early 19th century Oban Inn is covered in scaffolding and undergoing some major repair I assume.
