On the woodchips

Пасмурная погода:  overcast weather

The overcast conditions this week enable the city lights reflect off the clouds and create the effect of a reflector.

This is the Church of St. Nicholas on the Woodchips, which dates back in several forms to 1649.  Yes (like so many buildings in Moscow) it burnt down in the 17th century and was rebuilt at the expense of the parishioners.  The "woodchips" connotation derives from a neighbouring wood yard which fabricated wooden log cabins.

This is what the church looked like in 1915.  And blipped a year ago on 25 September 2015.
