Just when these silhouetted golfers were teeing off at Kilspindie with the distant view of the Pentland Hills and Edinburgh in the background there was a sound of an approaching roar behind.  Flying low over the sea came a massive Hercules transporter which was taking part in operational low flying exercises over the Borders of Scotland and Northern England.  (In case any local blippers are interested, it is due to repeat the exercise tomorrow and Friday in the early afternoon)  Meanwhile scores of oyster catchers and other birds were taking little notice of the hundreds of geese approaching Aberlady Bay.  Apparently 27,595 Pinkfooted Geese were recorded last Friday in the bay and 100 Barnacle Geese yesterday. It is an awesome sight hearing hundreds of geese as they land to rest after their long journeys from the Arctic to their winter homes which are mostly further south although thousands stay.
