Gowan Girl's image of Miss Dee and her specially gathered woodpecker feathers today brought back to mind my late son Simon's passion for collecting feathers, bird's eggs and even those birds which he found had died. Here is his collection from the 70s and 80s including a few carefully cleaned and bleached skulls! Simon died in a motor accident when he was 17 in 1989.
