Today we went on a trip with friends to visit the 100th Bomb Group Museum at Thorpe Abbotts, Norfolk.
It a place Ive been many times in the past & its a place that I love.
During WW2 it was a USAAF airbase - home to many American Airmen & the beautiful, iconic B-17 Flying Fortress.
The 100th was nicknamed 'The Bloody Hundredth' due to their reputation of high losses & today the control tower & a few surrounding buildings have been turned into a museum to the memory of the veterans & those who lost their lives.
This picture was taken standing on the balcony outside the first floor. When the planes were coming home from a mission people would flock to the control tower, to line this balcony or stand outside, to count the Fortresses home & hope all came back.
I would, respectfully, like to dedicate this blip to the men of the 100th who never got to see their base or their homes again.
