The Edge of the Wold

Autumn ivy

Ivy is so important in the Autumn as a source of nectar and pollen for the end of season bees, hoverflies and butterflies.  I was glad that in my purge earlier in the year of the ivy that was pulling our wall apart, I had left some to go to flower, for on this grey day it was attracting huge numbers of insects, including this beautiful red admiral.

This is a back blip from a day when I spent working at home.  On a sunny afternoon last week I counted 7 red admirals on the ivy in the lane outside our house.

Note to anyone looking - I shall be putting a few back blips on in the next few days to take my blip total that little bit nearer the next blipversary of 1500.
