Giant vegetables

Our afternoon was spent at the Autumn Food and Country Show at Peterborough Showground, which always used to be known as the Rare Breeds Show. There were still some animals, including many chickens for sale (we looked but didn't buy any, after our previous experiences with the foxes), but generally it seemed to have morphed into yet another shopping experience.

The giant vegetable competition is an unchanging feature, and these are the three heaviest pumpkins, with the winner on the right. Of course they don't compare with the recent recordbreaking outdoor pumpkin, grown from a seed costing £1250!! The marrows looked rather like small crocodiles, and the root vegetables were scarcely recognisable - you can just see the deformed roots of the heaviest swedes in the background.
