Round Britain Sunday

Sunday arrived whilst we were somewhere in the region of Gledrid services in North Wales. After one of many fuel stops on this trip, we were into a second night of driving. The route took some fabulously twisty roads, Annie drove the most twisty bit whilst I (Chris) managed a little sleep. Most of these roads we've only ever driven in the dark on this and previous times we've been on this event (when we've driven other owners' Triumph cars). After encountering a closed road near Tintern Abbey, we had a "moment" on the signposted diversion. Whilst driving up a steep, winding single carriageway road in the pitch dark, on flicking the lights to main beam Annie found she suddenly had no lights at all. After the shock of the darkness wore off, she found the dipped headlights were still fine. We cracked on a bit more slowly and eventually popped out on to the M48 where lighting was less of a problem. We crossed the River Severn on the old bridge and met friends at Gordano services on the M5 where a fuse was identified as the problem and quickly replaced. Then we were on down to Cornwall and Sunday breakfast at Lands End where we grabbed the blip, two of our three car "sub-team" on this event. The third car at this stage was in the car park having replacement brake pads fitted!

It was then on to control stops in Bude, Dartmoor, near Blandford Forum and finally back to where we began on Friday night, Knebworth House just North of London. Yes, we made it, 48 hours, just over 2000 miles (plus getting to the start and home again). Such a sense of achievement and our first fully completed event with our own special car.

All the Triumph cars on this event have been raising money for Guide Dogs. We found out last night that across the 140 entries, we've already raised in excess of £50,000, enough to train and support a new puppy (who will be called Triumph) through his whole guide dog career. Our team of three cars has been raising money here if anyone would like to support this fantastic charity.
