The Blue Lagoon

Iceland does tourism very well despite some disadvantages like the weather which occasionally is  (and today was) pretty grim - torrential rain and rising wind from first light though to be fair it was  no worse than can be found  sometimes in Scotland.

The apex of the industry is the Blue Lagoon, which everyone seems to know about whenever you say you are going to visit the country.

It is not a disappointment.   The hot , silica laden, water and the volcanic lava from which the pools are made gives the place a unique ambiance .   It is well presented and the cafes and restaurant are excellent - as is most of the food in this country.  You can even sample a smoothie or have a beer without getting out.

Today the steam from the water got mixed up with the squalls to create a haze through which you could just about see the lifeguards in balaclavas and fluorescent jackets .
