Heron

It was a really grim grey afternoon with sporadic showers and so not the ideal weather for taking action pictures of birds. I shot a couple of bursts of a variety of birds at the bird feeder in the garden and even extracting still images meant that any movement was a total blur. However, when a few minutes later I took the dogs for their afternoon walk there was a heron perched on top of the pedestrian bridge over the river. As long as we did not get too close it was content to stay there but flew off as we approached the bridge. Again the action shots are too blurry to be of any interest but it did circle round and come to rest in the river. This is where video capture becomes a bit of a burden as it is best done horizontally (landscape format) whilst the heron and its reflection would be so much better in portrait mode. You can of course turn the camera on its side but it is difficult to view the images as they will play in landscape mode. When you extract still images from the video capture you can then turn them her right way up and this what I did for my eventual blip. This heron is a fairly young one but still can stretch out quite tall.
