Palazzo Venezia

Palazzo Venezia was originally a papal palace, but in 1564 was given to the Venetian Republic. It later became the residence of the Austrian ambassador, until in 1916 it was taken over by the state. Mussolini had his office here, and used the balcony to deliver many of his most famous speeches. It now houses a museum.

We had a still along the Via dei Fori Imperiali, and I had intended to visit the palace of Nero. Unfortunately, having arrived near the Colosseo I discovered Nero's Palace was closed. We returned to Piazza Venezia and along to the Piazza di Spagna, near where we had lunch.

And so this brings our short visit to Rome to a close, and with this posting I am now up to date again!
