Scenery Change

The big Japanese Maple in our back yard was still green when we left for Idaho, but now is a glorious crimson, setting off the red "trim" on this Northern Flicker, whose beak has suet crumbs on it after his time at our bird feeder.

It's been a day of much rain and wind, with interludes of perfect stillness. Saturday is due to be much more of the the same, with the possibility of power outages. We're ready with headlamps, flashlights, camping stove, and plenty of books, non-perishable food, and beer and wine, also non-perishable...

My son W has also had a scenery change -- he and his friend A were in Iceland the past 10 days, driving the ring road around that fantastic country and enjoying the unique sights and hospitable people there. Today they flew to Dublin, going directly from the airport to a book festival (both are writers).

I've enjoyed following their adventures on Instagram, and am looking forward to what they'll post while in Edinburgh October 20-25. They'll be staying in a delightful Airbnb I recommended, owned by blippers Barrioboy and digitaldaze. It's the next best thing to staying there myself!

W has been to Scotland several times, so it will be interesting to see what takes his fancy this time. Book shops will be high on his list, I expect!
