Save the Future......

I am not normally a fan of graffiti, but you can't deny the fact that some of it is quite artistic and can add to the appearance of an otherwise drab wall.
This example on the Gironde peninsula appears to be educational in its message for the protection of the local environment with the words 'Sauvegarde du Littoral'

Also, on the lower left there is a mention of the 1942 Operation Frankton.
This was a commando raid on shipping in the German occupied port of Bordeaux during WW2. The plan was for six canoes to be taken to the area of the Gironde estuary by submarine. They would then paddle by night to Bordeaux. On arrival they would attack the docked cargo ships with limpet mines and then escape overland to Spain. Only 2 of the 10 men taking part survived. Of the others, 6 were executed by the Germans and 2 died of hypothermia.

(I currently only have intermittent and poor wifi access, but hope to resume commenting and enjoying your photos soon....)
