Secluded Beauty

The Museum at Sea is one of my favourite cultural hangouts.

There are more than one thousand sculptures made by famous and less famous sculptors from all over the world, produced from a wide variety of materials.
At this moment there is an interesting exposition of contemporary sculptures from South Africa called 'The Rainbow Nation'

This collection by some thirty artists is spread over several locations; in the Kloosterkerk, at the ANWB main office, at the City Council 'de Paauw' in Wassenaar, on the Lange Voorhout - which I Blipped on July 25th - and here at Beelden aan Zee.

But, its not only the collection that attracts.

The building itself is an interesting melange of a historic mansion above the dunes called 'Paviljoen van Wied' and was a gift from King Willem 1 to his wife. The rest of the museum is camouflaged like a huge underground bunker with a lot of daylight openings and hidden terraces.

This shot is from the highest terrace overlooking the old mansion and sea.
