King Edward VI School

This is the school in Stratford that Shakespeare is reported to have gone to.  There were no pupil records in those days but it seems reasonable as his father John was a councillor at the attached guild hall.

The Birthday Trust have recently opened the school rooms to the public and on Tuesdays it is free entry for Stratford residents. So went take a look this morning.  There is a intoductory film and tour of the old guildhall before going upstairs to the school rooms.  Here a 'teacher' takes over giving a talk and explaining how school work progressed in the 16th century including a pratical in acting and Latin "Et tu, Brute".

Then through to a further classroom , this one with desks which they didn't have in Shakespeare's time though the desks were pretty old.  All in all an interesting visit and worth the entrance fee we paid.

I always thought I'd make a good school master, especially with my birch twig cane!
