Alice Memorial Darmstadt

It's becoming dark already after a long day in the office when I pass by Darmstadt's Alice Memorial in front of the Round Church, commemorating the genial Grand Duchess of Hessia who was Queen Victoria's and Prince Albert's daughter. Alice successfully patronised nursing care in 19th century Darmstadt and died of diphtheria caring for her own sick children (unusual for a Princess in those days). She is much adored by the local public to the day, and a hospital proudly bears her name.
