The causeway

Built in 1914 using horse and dray and man and shovel for the wharf that was opened eventually in February 1916. It is still used as the road down to Talleys Fish and Icecream factory, the marina, the saltwater baths and the walkway and cycleway that runs for miles along the beach front.

I wanted to use the wide angle to show how the estuary on the left looks when the tide is full on a full moon. It rose  4.1 metres today so it was almost lapping over the cycleway which is below the bank on the left.

Plantings have been done by Keep Motueka Beautiful on the left as well. Mainly small flaxes, grasses and the odd shrub.

You can walk right round the estuary on the left. It takes about 50 minutes if you are a non photographer, a lot longer if you are snapping all the way. It is hard to imagine that in six hours time all that water will be gone.
