It's a hard life ...

Sparky, plum worn out after a busy day doing nothing, again!

We know how you feel!

Both Hilary and I are counting the days til Richard returns from his stint at the stables of the German Olympist, Ludgar Beerbaum. The haylage we're feeding the horses is wetter than it's been all summer, so rather heavy. I'm doing my best to help Hilary out by making up all the tubs of it for the night and morning feeds that she is now doing, placing them around the yard near the relevant horses and then making up the ones I need for the 4.30pm feed.

Usually horses are fed hay/haylage in nets strung up in their stables, but R and H drop a tub of haylage over the door 4 times a day. Horses naturally graze from the floor and dividing the daily amount between 4 feeds instead of the usual two creates less waste as they eat all they're given inbetween feeds. When they get field time, the following haylage feed is reduced a bit, even now as there's still a fair amount of grass to be had.
