Holy Ghost Church Munich

From the start have to admit not my photo. I spent a boring day at home and Ottobeuren.

Angie's work department had an afternoon outing to the open air food market right in the centre of Munich - The Viktualienmarkt. Some 140 stalls where one can find most the fresh fruit & veg, fish, bread, cheese and milk products and meat, including horse. They had taken a guided tour which included stopping at several stalls and having tasting sessions.

Also on the programme, a look in to the church at one corner of the market. One of Munich's oldest but almost completely destroyed in WWII bombing. It was largely rebuilt in the 50's and in fact is still not finished. It's a relatively small church but still the reconstructed Baroque ceiling is quite spectacular. The Roman Catholic priest who is responsible for the church as it is in his parish, is a very well known, outspoken moderniser and gets in to hot water from time to time. For many years he worked for a week of the Oktoberfest as a waiter and donated his earnings to charity. Critical voices from the "traditionalists" forced him to stop for a few years but the general public supported him and last year, he ´did it again, donating the money to a charity formed by a Munich comedian many years ago for the children of Syria.

After the tour, they stopped off for food at a nearby restaurant/bar "Sausalitos" a Munich based chain offering the "California-Mexican" gastronomic experience. Currently they have a special offering of Great British Food:
Beefburger with blue cheese and chips
Fried Fish with mushy peas and chips
Queen Mum Cheesecake

Wow!

She wasn't very impressed nor her colleagues, seemingly the noise volume was so high it was difficult to talk even to the person sitting next to you - and that was just after 5:00pm.

Did mean she (and many colleagues) left early and got an earlier train home: good for me as she had bought me a piece of Stilton and two pieces of cheddar from one of the market stalls. I haven't ever seen Stilton here. So I got an evening snack and Angie got to see, on TV, her Bayern Munich Football team beat a Dutch team in the Champions League. Munich had been full of Dutch fans all day.
