LadyG Stands Her Ground

The hummingbirds have been quite active recently. They are very hungry, busy piling on the calories to shore them up for the long journey ahead.

I was watching LadyG as she visited the feeder on Saturday. Snapping away with the camera, I was admiring the jewel-like green of her feathers.

Suddenly, LadyG assumed an odd posture. She leaned down and fanned out her tail feathers. How interesting, I thought, as I snapped another shot.

Only after I had the shot did I learn the reason for the tail-fan maneuver: a second hummingbird, attempting to invade "her" turf!
