Sisters & Sirens

Wow ! 'blipping eck',
As I am new to blipfoto, it is a little bit of a learning curve in terms of which photo to publish? Today was spent in typical 'Brits Abroad' tourist mode. We travelled down the river Rhein taking in the various castles on both sides, as well as very long barges and other interesting sites. This picture was taken when we climbed to the top of the Loreley. This is a notorious point on the river Rhein where many riverboat sailors have lost their lives due to treacherous rocks on a bend surrounded by rocky cliffs. Mythology states that there was a Siren like creature that sits on top of the mountain and lures unsuspecting sailors into her evil clutches. Hence the picture ! Other choices could have been the large swathe of green vine plantations on the hillside or any of the various castles, monuments or statues including one of Germania (representing the creation of the German Empire in 1870). So the more interesting picture and story won the day.
