El Camino

Watch out!

These 15th c. watchtowers are found all along the southern coast coast of Spain and I think even further up the Mediterranean coast.

Designed as part of a surveillance network to warn of impending raids from north Africa.

You can see the entrance is very high up - access by ladder that was pulled up afterwards. Lonely job I'd imagine!

This one is near Estepona, west of Marbella.

I'm back here having supper with an old neighbour. Before I moved to Spain and during the nightmare renovation of the Cortijo we bought an apartment on the coast for holidays and this one was restored by the developer. Happy holiday memories.
