Food demonstration at the Tuesday market

The big market on Saltspring is the Saturday market. Every Saturday during the summer season, the marketplace is crowded with vendors and visitors. From the beginning, it was mainly farm produce which was sold on the Saturday market. At least that is what I have heard. But with all visitors, soon artisans started to set up their stalls. And more and more tourists started to make the market their favourite pastime on Saturdays.

In the long run, the market became so crowded that the islanders stopped to put much attention to it. And the farmers were overshadowed by the artisans.

So the farmers and other food vendors opened a new market, on Tuesdays. From start it was not a big thing. But it grew, and now it is very popular, with many vendors and visitors. Many islanders go there to buy farm produce, home baked bread, flowers and other things and to look at demonstrations on how to prepare different kind of foods. There are no artisans, so the Tuesday market has became an important focus for locally grown food.
