Whooper Swan

I was walking along the entrance drive of Skara Brae and went to look over the wall in the background of the photo to look for snipe, when this whooper swan popped up out of the reeds and gave a single, plaintive 'honk'.
It may have just arrived after a long flight from Iceland and was getting out of the strong west wind for a rest before joining other whoopers on the nearby Loch of Skaill. I don't think it was injured but will check tomorrow.
