Dutch tales

Autumn view

From my brother's balcony in Amsterdam.

He lives in Bijlmer, the southern part of Amsterdam. In the 1970's lots of flats are built for cheap housing. A well meant project. Lots of green in between. It ended up being an unsafe area, a lot of illegal housing, poverty, crime. Years ago a plane crashed into a flat. A terrible accident, lots of deaths. The only bright line to this tragedy was a review of the area. Some flats were taken down and replaced by new houses and smaller apartment buildings. Other flats were hugely improved. We did a stroll in the area this afternoon. In the extras some shots from around here. The area has been hugely improved.

Tomorrow my other brother and I will go into Amsterdam center to visit an exhibition about Catherina the Great from Russia.

For now it's wine and family time.
