Paule, Beauty & A Staircase To Heaven

A day full of surprises! I got up as the churchbells rang. I had promised this the night before. I need this early morning moment to write. Had been longing for such a reset for some time already. With the changing from summer- to wintertime I took my chance. And it really feels much better.

While the early morning gave some golden autumn views of the oak trees outside, I worked on my small to-do-list in the morning. After lunch we had to bring the car to the garage for tire change. In stead of waiting we spend our time climbing up the Brandenberg. And walked the Mother Hulda-trail deeper into the Reinhards Forest.

And there in a closed field - in between two wooden cottages - we saw two horses. “But there is Paule,” I said, “and Beauty, Hello Dear Old Friends. Long time no see!” It must have been last April that we visited our friends at the Eisenbahner-Ruins, where they use to pass their winter time.

We gave them some apples collected nearby and had a chat until Paule started to move his heavy gait. Beauty following in his usual trail. Then, feeling happy to have found our old chaps again, we took an unknown grassy track uphill. Perhaps somewhere in the wilderness we would find the remnants of the Staircase to Heaven - the Himmelsleiter - which we could not find before. It seemed to have vanished for us on our forest walks there.

And, indeed there we discovered this old stony staircase. For the first time in eight years, since we came to Carlsheaven. Next time we will climb up to the quarry and see the sky high above there. Nothing special but anyhow, it gave us an uplifting feeling to have found the access to Upstairs. And the fields where Paule & Beauty stay until perhaps, when it gets colder, they will return to their Eisenbahner-Stable.
