on the buses

The letter from the JR hospital in Oxford is quite clear - parking is a problem; ‘allow at least an hour to find a parking space’.

We do better than that - we take the bus.  There’s a park and ride on the outskirts of Oxford which has buses that go to the two big Oxford hospitals, the John Radcliffe (JR) and the Churchill.  The bus is free (for those whose bus pass has not expired ….) and the journey take 20 minutes.

We bag the front seat upstairs - just like we did at school. There are bus lanes so we glide (electric hybrid engine) past the queues of cars, where I’ve often spent at least 20 minutes with the engine switched off.  And when we get to the hospital, we look down (in both senses of the word) on the people circling the car park below us.

I’ve been coming to these two hospitals for the past 10 years or so and I cannot understand why I didn’t take the bus before.  I have another appointment next week and look forward to once again taking the moral high ground seat.
