Pargeting

Greeted the arrival of November in Suffolk, where many of the buildings bear beautiful evidence of pargeting (also sometimes spelled pargetting), known in nearby Norfolk as pinking. It is the ancient practice of applying decorative plasterwork to walls. This lovely oak leaf design is in the hall of the farmhouse we stayed in last night, which has a 15th century core but has been extensively modernised and extended. The extras show the house and more of the pargeting. This is a modern application of this traditional plasterwork, done by a local craftswoman. Good to see that the old skills survive.
