Somebirdy's Party

It must have been somebirdy's party,
as the songbirds flocked together
to bathe in the pond, gather grubs and seeds,
and one even found a soft feather.

It must have been somebirdy's party:
it's a day I shall always remember,
when every last bird that visits my garden*
arrived at one stroke in November.

I took all these photos in the space of a few minutes. All the birds descended in and around the pond and were in and out, feeding, drinking, bathing for about 20 minutes or more. Even with this collage, some birds (such as Robin) are missing. At one point there were four blackbirds, one great tit and a songthrush all in the water at once - although I wonder if one of the blackbirds was a juvenile thrush. They were having a fabulous frenzy of fun. The Extra shows Dunnock arriving with a feather in his beak (does he think it's spring?), looking down to where he's dropped the feather, then poking around in the wall looking for grubs (or his lost feather?)!

Did I ever mention how much I love these garden birds?!!!

*'every last bird' is poetic licence: there were a few absentees, from tiny wren to whomping woodpigeon.
