Roadside Monument

We had a trip to Leeds to pick up some lighting and a few other bits and pieces. Road works near Eden Camp were causing long delays so we detoured via Castle Howard. This is a monument to the 7th Earl of Carlisle George Howard. It was built by public subscription and has recently been given a makeover. It stands at the top of the hill overlooking the Vale of York.

I managed to fit in a bike ride this afternoon but felt I was chasing the daylight on a gloomy afternoon.
