The dentist tested out my new dentures for fit, scraped loads of gunge off my teeth, took a few X-rays that suggested I needed a couple of fillings, and should have one of my wisdoms whipped out.    And then I walked home the long way, and as I sauntered up Byres Road, remembered that I had never inspected this plaque before, though it's been up a while.

We used to bump into Stewart around here - he'd always stop for a chat, full of nervous excitement, with a splendid repertoire of laughs. After a burst of shared news and enthusiasms, from steam trains to Kraftwerk, someone else would claim his time and take over and we'd wonder how he ever got home.
