Hot silver

Two pals of old wrote to ask if they could come to stay in our little rental house and to do a one-day silversmithing workshop with me. How could we possibly refuse? So yesterday they came. They made a solid silver bangle each in the morning and embellished them with gold blobs made from old pieces that they had hanging around in drawers.

After lunch they carved wax rings then we cast them in solid silver poured into a Delft clay mould. They filed, polished, cleaned, marvelled and finally added gold blobs to those too before going through the whole polishing routine again. This morning they put photos of their creations on Facebook. I'm thrilled that they are so happy with them.

The photo is of molten silver being poured into the casting mould.
