Indian Corn....

....a hallmark of autumn! While most everyone uses it to decorate their houses, it can be eaten although I've never tried it. It's hard as a rock, so needs to be boiled & it isn't a sweet tasting corn. Once it's been boiled it's apparently somewhat like hominy, which is used to make grits. It can also be ground down to make flour, and certain kinds of kernels can be used as popcorn. Although the multi colored varieties have been, for the most part, hybrids developed in the last 50 years, you can get colorful kernels by yourself. If you plant solid- colored ear seeds close together in your garden, it will result in calico colored ears growing! Who knew?
I'm settling in for this afternoon's Packer game--they played so well last week but with 8 of their starters out injured they lost. Hoping for better results today! Next week at this time I'll be in Nashville, sitting in Nissan Stadium  watching the Packers play the Titans--can't wait!! :))
