Hanne Lene, Fez El Bali

We arrived in Fez after a three and a half hour flight. Queued for ages to get through Passport Control. A friendly young Moroccan met us at the gate and drove us to our riad The taxi had to stop
on the edge of the Medina, the alleyways are too narrow for cars to pass. While we were waiting for someone to come and meet us, the taxi driver told us about the effects of climate change in Morocco, which sound pretty dire. It reached almost 50 degrees C over the summer.
The place we are staying in is amazingly lovely. Dreamlike. Carved doors and painted ceilings. Tiled floors and stained glass windows. Everything is made by hand. In the Medina there are no cars and an atmosphere of calm.It makes you wonder about what what we have lost sight of in pursuit of progress.
