Butterfly on Angelica

The Angelica flowers continue to attract the flies, but other nectar feeders visit also. This yellow admiral spent several minutes on one of the flower heads, but it wouldn’t open its wings.

Mantis Diary 6.  While looking for the resident nymph on the parsley I found a tiny recently hatched one, and it was eating a fly! See extra. The nymph was about 10mm long, and the fly was no more than 3mm. I had to use the flash because it was so gloomy early on. This means that ootheca are still hatching.
