Caen Hill (Wednesday 9th November 2016)

I was in Devizes today and amongst my calls I visited the top of the Caen Hill Flight and had a long chat to a recruiter from the Canal & River Trust. Apparently there have been unconfirmed sitings of water voles on the flight, and also mink. At any rate something dark brown was seen, too large to be a vole or a rat but too small for an otter. There have been reports of otters there, but presumably one or the other is wrong as they don't share territory, with otters usually being the victors.

The swan pair were still there below Lock 43 with the cygnet, who is now almost full size. For blip I have chosen this kindly posing cob swan, shaking his wings free of excess water.

Later I was at Devizes Wharf and had a coffee in the Wharf Café there.

Even later, I wandered down to the Marden at Berhills Farm in Calne where I saw a pair of herons and got pestered by some inquisitive cattle.
