Friendly Kea

A number of New Zealand's endemic birds seem to have developed a close relationship with people. This Kea, a large green parrot with scarlet underwings, was occupying the tables outside the cafe and ice cream parlour in thre tiny hamlet of Arthur's Pass. Local people are controlling predators in the surrounding alpine forests to ensure this scarce native bird survives.
