Bridges of the Forth

Visited the new Queensferry Crossing today as the final section of the north-end, weighing almost 200 tons, was raised into position from a barge.

Fortunately I was with a structural engineer who explained the complexities of the operation that involved altering the tension on the adjacent cables to facilitate a perfect fit.

The new bridge when completed next year will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world. It is elegant and stands head and shoulders above the current suspension bridge but there is no conflict both structures compliment each other as does the iconic railway bridge. All three are symbolic of bridge design at the time of construction.

However,  for today's Blip this composition featuring the existing road and rail bridge from Port Edgar took my fancy.
