Love Poem

I’m walking along the shoreline
trying to clear my head,
my mind is full of headlines
because Leonard Cohen is dead
and Trump is going to the White House
and we must leave the EU
but then my thoughts drift,
they shift, dear, to you.
Having a you to depend on,
having a you to love,
puts things in perspective
and drowns out awful stuff.


Now I know you’re not keen on Leonard,
you’ve never been a fan,
you find his voice depressing
so I put headphones on,
yes I turn up the volume
and I put headphones on
when I want to listen
to a Leonard Cohen song.


He puts life in perspective
and makes sense of awful stuff;
now I’m immersing myself
in
Dance Me To The End Of Love
