Stand Out

I'm writing this at the top of The Breidden, because there's a sense of perspective, and peace, that only comes from height, fresh air and some achingly honest conversation with God.

I've read a lot of stuff this week. Read, argued, listened, read and then read some more. The opinions I've heard have ranged from a shrugging, let's get on with it attitude to near apocalyptic. And while I try to stay clear of 'we're all heading for doom', with the (now almost probable) election of Le Pen next spring, a further crumbling of the EU and generally more hate, we are probably marching towards somewhere not very nice.

That picture of Trump and Farage today has, even though I've tried to stop it, made my blood boil. These two men told us that they represent us, the normal everyday folk, whilst they laugh at us and joke in their million dollar apartments with gold doors. Let's not pretend that these men know, or represent, the 'real people' for these men are as much a part of the establishment as the people they claim to oppose. No, Mr Trump and Mr Farage, you do not represent us. No X in a box could ever mean that you represent us.

And while today we celebrate and remember the lives lost fighting for the people and countries they love, we must also choose to fight.

We'll fight against you and the vile things you represent. We'll fight you with our little acts of kindness, with our words that speak up for those who are hurting and marginalised, we'll fight you with tins of food dropped into food bank collection boxes and with coins in buckets, we'll fight you with our furious love.

"And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God".
