Beneath Biscay

Dank day out

Went out to Ribadesella for lunch for a change of scenery. Weather on the damp side, as is evident. Lunch good. Menu del dia. For starters M had fabada asturiana (bean, chorizo, pork and black pudding stew). I had pote asturiano which is similar but with added greens and potato. We both had veal scallops with a cabrales blue cheese sauce as the main course.

Among Ribadesella's claims to fame are the international canoe race, the Descent of the Sella River, which finishes at the bridge in the picture and its Tito Bustillo caves complete with pre-historic cave paintings from 12,000 BC and earlier. The entrance to the caves are on the right bank, just behing the right hand end of the bridge.
