Earthquake weather

We came to Kaikoura from Picton by train in September 2007, and this was the view from the beach.

In the early hours of today 14 Nov 2016, a devastating 7.5 earthquake struck. The epicenter was 25km north of Cheviot in the South Island.

I was woken up by our bedroom in Auckland swaying with the ceiling light.

The rail line and the roads in and out of Kaikoura were wiped out. Human casualty count stands at 2 at the moment. The aftershocks are continuing.
