The Velvet Frog

Most Friday nights include a large glass of wine and a couple of hours in front of a music documentary on BBC4, because that's how we roll.

Tonight it was the turn of easy listening to get the treatment. I'm not particularly enamoured of it as a genre, but it made for an interesting diversion. This is Mel Torme, whose dulcet tones earned him the nickname of The Velvet Fog.

Unfortunately, the BBC 4 caption writer seemed to get a bit mixed up, and gave him an amphibian soubriquet instead. I was also struck by the resemblance he had to Tory education humunculous Michael Gove, although as yet I haven't heard him sing "What's New, Pussycat".
