2012 Bellingham Bike-In

This was the fourth Bellingham Bike-In, and according to the all-local organizers -- the Pickford Film Center (independent movie house), SPARK Museum, and Mount Bakery -- it was the best one yet.

Bay Street was closed to traffic and at 7:00pm the festivities began, including great music by Smokewagon, a "spaghetti-surf-garage-a-billy" band hailing from Skagit County, just a few miles south.

Quite a few bicycles were entered in the Show 'n Shine competition; I was particularly drawn to those in the vintage classic (before 1980) category, especially this beautiful blue 1943 Crescent bicycle with an attractive aluminum chain guard.

I think there should have been a competition category for "best bicycle seat" -- this one looked the most comfortable to me, and this British one was definitely the classiest.

Here's another look at the bicycle featured in today's blip, as well as its happy owner, right after she was awarded one of the evening's prizes.

(Phil had a different take on the most beautiful bicycle, and managed to include beer in his blip, as well -- check it out here.)
