Stunned

Ignore the Christmas tree.

This Blip is not about the Christmas tree, this Blip is about Arrival.

I have rarely walked out of a film so completely stunned. The story is simple, Aliens arrive, the US government asks a skilled linguist to try and talk to them, whilst she is trying to understand them there is a massive communications failure and the powers that be decide the Aliens are a threat, but the linguist saves the day (you kind of knew that was going to happen).

But forget all that. It is a beautiful film, there are only two pieces of music and they are both beautiful. There is only a very small central cast and they are all excellent.

But the ideas that are convened, the paradoxes explored, the use of communication as a central theme of weapon, gift, unifier.

Basically the film is brilliant and I loved it.
